recently the course was in great shape and the greens were excellent. A welcome dinner and prizegiving followed the golf and thanks to our sponsor, Eva-Tec, there was something for "everyone in the audience".

The TABS Golf Society finished its 2023 programme with the outing on Thursday 26th atSt. Margaret’s Golf Club. Winner on the day was Jason O’Brien with a spectacular 44pts. After golf the group enjoyed a superb dinner and prize giving in the clubhouse.
A focus for this outing was the head-to-head between Dermot Downer and Fionn Lacey for the title Golfer of the Year. Both started the day on the same points but Fionn’s score of 36pts took the IPF Trophy.
In wrapping up, Captain John Purcell thanked all the members for their commitment and support during his captaincy. It was an honour which will forever stay in his memory.
The courses and dates for 2024 are already booked and another TABS year of good fellowship and equally good golf (!) is anticipated.

MAY 2023 NOTES
It was a damp day to start at the TABS outing at Beech Park Golf Club. Clearly our sponsor's (Westside/Dermot Downer) prayers were answered and the day progressed into a very welcome sunshine.
A full timesheet of members and guests enjoyed the day and the superb meal in the clubhouse afterwards. Captain John thanked Westside for their usual top class hospitality. With his tongue firmly in his cheek he even praised the "water features" on the course. Dermot claimed that these "features" disappeared when the sun came out.😊
Another enjoyable day , good company, good craic, and great golf (see winners list).

A Message from our out going Captain Mark Horgan
TO: Our wonderful TAB’S members, many visitors throughout the year and our very special committee and officers.
Well, where has the time gone !! As we approach our festive few days I hope that everyone is keeping healthy and safe and looking forward to the Christmas break with your loved ones. As your outgoing Captain I just wanted to acknowledge the amazing year I had and the great honour it was to be Captain of this historic society (many thanks again Alan).
There was the odd challenge throughout the year but nothing that our exceptional Hon.Sec and Hon. Treas. couldn’t defuse with the utmost colmness, but more importantly we had many highlights and great memories. Probably the most significant highlight was off the golf course, and the fantastic effort made by our members and visitors in the fundraising for the Ukraine 4x4 Vehicle Appeal. Both our outgoing President (Freddie) and myself sincerely thank everyone for your wonderful generosity.
As we quickly approach a new year our golf society couldn’t be in safer hands with incoming Captain John, President Ian and Vice-Captain John, supported by our exceptional committee and members. 2023 promises to be another fantastic year of enjoyable golf and wonderful friendships.
I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year, your participation and support throughout 2022 is very much appreciate, thank you.

A Message from our outgoing Captain Alan Heary
Gentlemen,
It has been a great honour to represent you as Captain of the TABS for the last two years, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the golf and socialising, especially the two memorable Away Weekends .
I have received great support from the members and numerous accolades from many clubs we’ve visited as to the running of our Golf Society for which I can accept no credit for, this is in no small part due to the phenomenal work of Brendan McCabe and Colm Hanley. I would like to also take this opportunity to thank Mark Horgan and Freddie Snowe for their assistance and friendship.
The TABS GS website has become a great resource, many thanks to Pat Reilly for his foresight and input.
I’m looking forward to 2022 with great anticipation with Mark Horgan as our incoming Captain, ably assisted by his Vice-Captain John Purcell and President Freddie Snowe. Three ‘giants’ within our industry.
I know they’ll received the members unwavering support plus the financial backing of our Sponsors which is vital to the Benevolent Fund.
As we come to the end of 2021 may I wish you, your families, and friends all a safe, healthy, and happy New Year.
Alan

Captain's Prize 17th September 2021
AFTER heavy overnight and early-morning rain the raingear was in evidence for Captain’s Day on Friday last at St. Margaret’s Golf & Country Club. But by 2.30pm it had become a balmy Autumn day for the 42 members and guests who enjoyed the superb course, in equally good company.
After golf we all sat together (first time since Lockdown) for an excellent buffet dinner in the Clubhouse.
In summing up, Captain Alan repeated how honoured he was to be Captain of TABS Golf Society, an honour also held by his father Pat in 1984.The Captain thanked the members for their continued participation in the outings at home and the Away Weekends during the past two difficult years. He particularly thanked the Committee for their work in organising the outings. He made special mention, by name, of our sponsors, including GPMI (on the day),Portman Graphics, Realt Papers, Colorman, Graphocolor, Westside Press and Antalis.

TABS AWAY WEEKEND WATERFORD AUGUST 2021
It was a sizzling weekend in Waterford for the TABS trip to Waterford Castle, Tramore and Faithlegg Golf Clubs. Superb prizes were donated by Captain Alan (Print Dynamics), Dave and Declan (Graphocolor) and Martin Joyce (Alltype), Ian and Jason (Portman Graphics) and many others. A special mention must be made for The Munster Bar (friend of member Steven Walshe) for the evening hospitality. Everyone was a winner. Click her for the RESULTS

Happy New Year.
We wish you and your family safety from the virus and a healthy 2021.
Your golf society, like everything else in Ireland, had a strange year in 2020.
But despite lockdown and with due regard to the government health advice we
managed to stay active with four outings and a (shortened) Away Weekend.
So, what for 2021?
- The Annual General Meeting cannot be held due to COVID restrictions.
and
- It is unclear when, and under what rules, the golf courses can re-open.
Our proposals for 2021 are as follows:
- The Captain, President and Committee will remain in office for 2021.
- We will book courses for outings as normal, understanding that changes due
to health advice etc. may have to be made at short notice.
- We continue with the model used last year. i.e. “social golf” for members and
guests, cost to cover greenfee and a small contribution towards prizes.
- Reduced membership fee of €30 .
The plan at present
- No outing in March.
- Following bookings have been made;: April 23 Luttrellstown;
May 21 Beech Park; July 16 Malahide; Sept 17 St. Margaret’s;
October 15 The Island.
- Hopefully we can have another Away Weekend this year. We are looking at
venues in Waterford, Kilkenny and Carlingford. This will be progressed when
the hotels re-open.
We hope (more hope !) you agree with these plans.
Comments/questions/advice always welcome.
Best regards,
Captain Alan, President Freddie, Vice Captain Mark, Brendan, Colm, Declan, Ian,
Joe, Dermot and John.

TABS AWAY WEEKEND WEXFORD AUGUST 2020
Rosslare Golf Club was the venue for this year’s Away Weekend.
The 26 members and guests enjoyed the “new normal” over two days golf at Rosslare, and the hospitality at Clayton Whites Hotel.
In bright sunshine six members and guests enjoyed a game at Bunclody Golf Club on Thursday.
Heavy rain and winds affected the first few teams at the start of the Friday outing but the weather improved and some good scores were returned . The winner, Steven Walsh, was one of the early starters.
Because of the early rain on Friday it was agreed with Captain Alan that we would not have the usual scramble on Saturday, replacing it with a singles stableford competition. The fine weather resulted in an enjoyable game for all with excellent winning results. Best of the day was visitor Leslie Kertez (guest of Steve Morrissey) who returned 40 pts. beating Dermot Downer with a back nine score of 24pts. Dermot had his own special memory with a hole-in-one on the 2nd. It was another most enjoyable weekend for TABS members and guests.
Next outing St. Margaret’s on Friday September 18. Tee at 12.30.

A Message From Our President
With another great golf year over and with 2019 behind us the prospects for the 2020 season are equally as good as 2019. Congratulations to all the winners throughout the 2019 season but particularly the winners of the “Majors” i.e. The Captains, The Vice–Captains and The Presidents Prize and also The Golfer of the Year. Well done everyone.
Captain Declan did us proud, super courses and his memorable weekend at Rosses Point was great fun in spite of the weather. Once again we are privileged to have had a very strong and active Committee to guide the Society and support Declan led by our Hon Sec Brendan and Financial Watchdog/Treasurer Colm and now as Gay would say “our very own little web site” proposed and developed by Pat Reilly.
Looking at the line-up of courses selected by incoming Captain Alan Heary and his Vice-Captain Mark Horgan we are in for another treat in 2020 and I wish them well.
Any society is only as good as its members and we are indeed fortunate to have a very loyal membership that is growing with the infusion of new blood over the last few years. I extend a very warm welcome to our new members; you have joined an exceptional Friendly Society of existing members of TABS.
Personally, and on behalf of our Society, I would like to say a very special “Thank You” to all of our sponsors who not only provided us with such wonderful prizes for every outing but also brought along visitors some of whom have since become members. Thank you guys, your support is invaluable and deeply appreciated by us all.
I have been honoured to have presided over and to have been part of a first class Committee of Ian Murphy, Mick Dowling, Joe Murphy and Pat Reilly; Officers Declan, Alan, Dermot and that “Daring Duo Brendan & Colm.” Thank you all so much and also thank you to our members for your support and friendship.
I wish all our members, our Sponsors, the Committee, our visitors and all your families a Very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year 2020 and good golfing.
Freddie
